Press Information Bureau: Nov 29, 2012All India Coordinated Research Project on Post-harvest Technology (ICAR) conducted a study at National level and printed the report in September, 2012. As per the study, estimated monetary value of harvest, post-harvest losses of horticultural, agricultural and livestock produce, in the country was Rs. 44143 crore at price and production value for the year 2007 - 08.In order to increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in cold storage sector, Government has permitted 100% FDI under automatic route as per the extant FDI policy. This policy mandates minimum investment of US$ 100 million with at least 50% of total FDI being invested in 'back-end infrastructure' within three years of the first tranche of FDI, where 'back-end infrastructure' will include capital expenditure on all activities, excluding that on front-end units.The Government is implementing following schemes which have components for increasing cold storage capacity aimed at checking wastage of horticulture and agriculture produce: National Horticulture Mission. Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States. National Horticulture Board. Scheme of Ministry of Food Processing Industries. Scheme of Agricultural Processed Food Products Export Development Authority. National Cooperative Development Corporation. Further, Government has included capital investment in creation of modern storage capacity including cold chains and post-harvest storage as an eligible sector for viability gap funding under "support to public private partnership in Infrastructure scheme".This information was given by Shri Tariq Anwar, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

100% FDI Permitted in Power Sector
Press Information Bureau: Dec 14, 2012The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia informed Lok Sabha today that as per extant policy, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) up to 100% is permitted in the power sector, under the automatic route, for: Generation and transmission of electric energy produced in hydro electric, coal/lignite based thermal, oil based thermal and gas based thermal power plants; Non-Conventional Energy Generation and Distribution; Distribution of elective energy to households, industrial, commercial and other users; and Power Trading. Accordingly, any foreign power company can enter power sector through FDI route. Further, several global power plant equipment manufacturing companies from Japan, Europe and USA have formed Joint Ventures with Indian Companies for establishing manufacturing base in India for the manufacture of supercritical boilers/turbine generators and technology transfer. The companies are Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Japan with L&T at Gujarat; Hitachi, Japan with BGR at Tamil Nadu; Toshiba, Japan with JSW at Tamil Nadu; Alstom, France with Bharat Forge at Gujarat; Ansaldo Caldie, Italy with Gammon at Tamil Nadu; Babcock & Wilcox, USA with Thermax at Maharashtra; Hitachi Power Europe GmbH (Germany) with BGR at Tamil Nadu. Doosan, Korea (100% FDI) has come to establish its manufacturing facilities on their own strength in Tamil Nadu.Besides, CLP India Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of CLP Holdings has set up a 1320 MW thermal power project at Haryana. In addition, M/s. AES (Chhattisgarh Energy Pvt. Ltd.) proposes to setup 2x660 MW Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh and Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (A Joint Venture of Govt. of Odisha & AES Corp. USA) also proposes to setup a new Thermal Power Project (2x 660 MW) in Odisha.
