CII-SR signs MoU with St. John Ambulance (India) for providing First Aid training to industries

CII: Dec 26, 2012A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Confederation of Indian Industry, Southern Region and St. John Ambulance (India), Tamil Nadu State and for launching the First Aid Training to Industries in the presence of His Excellency Dr. K Rosaiah, The Governor of Tamil Nadu at Raj Bhavan here on Monday.

During his special address, Dr. K. Rosaiah, His Excellency, the Governor of Tamil Nadu said, "proper attention to the safety and welfare of the employees can yield valuable returns to the company and it will improve employee morale, enhance productivity and increase the quality of the manufactured products and services. This initiative is a milestone in motivating the industries to take care of the health and safety aspects of their employees and also underlines their corporate social responsibility".

Dr Rosaiah commended St John Ambulance and CII for this unique initiative and urged that this effort should not get limited to major industries and it should go down to Micro, Small and Medium Industries.

"Companies must attach the same importance towards achieving high safety performance as they do to the other key objectives of their business activities", said Dr Rosaiah.

In his keynote address, R. Dinesh, Chairman, CII, Tamil Nadu State Council & Joint Managing Director - TVS Iyengar & Sons Ltd said, " the new initiative will further strength the awareness on what right thing can be done by the industry at the time of emergency. He urged industries to find solution to tackle all kind of emergency which may arise at the workplace. He assured His Excellency that all members of CII would have trained people available in Tamil Nadu who will be able to take care not only the emergency arise in the work place but also emergency across the state.

In his address Dr. Varma Vegesna, Chairman, Health Care Sub Committee, CII-SR & Managing Director, Lazarus Hospitals Ltd said Environment, Health and Safety were key focus areas in the work plan of CII. Several awareness campaigns have been organised in the areas environment, health and industrial safety. The partnership between CII and St John Ambulance was one such initiative, he added.

Dr S Chandrakumar, Co Chairman, Healthcare Sub-Committee CII-SR & Managing Director, Kavery Hospital, in his closing remarks said, "More than 15% of the major disability and death can be prevented by properly trained first aid team and through this partnership first aid knowledge will be jointly strengthened by way of involvement of private sector. More than 10 companies and around 10,000 volunteers have come forward to spread this first aid awareness programme to the industries in Tamil Nadu.

In his Welcome address, Dr .D.Vadivel Mugundhan, Chairman - St John Ambulance (India) - Tamil Nadu State said "Iyarkai Mission 2012 which was started early this year has been implemented by 32000 members in 32 districts of Tamil Nadu, to take this initiative to next level St John Ambulance has partnered with Confederation of Indian Industry - Southern Region" for First Aid Training for Industries in Tamil Nadu.

Dr. K. Rosaiah, His Excellency, the Governor of Tamil Nadu presented Brigade Badges to Brigade Personnel & Service Awards during the occasion.
